• Not draining

• Not turning on

  When a washer won't turn on at all, it's tempting to blame the machine, but the fix is often simpler than people expect. We start with the basics — the outlet, the plug, a tripped breaker — because a dead machine sometimes just isn't getting power. If power checks out, the usual suspects are the door lock, the main control board, or a failed start button. The door lock is a big one: many washers won't power up a cycle unless they're sure the door is shut and latched. • Strange noises

  A new noise is your washer telling you something's wearing out before it fully breaks. Grinding or rumbling on the spin cycle usually points to worn tub bearings, while a rattle or clunk is often a coin or underwire that slipped past the drum. A high-pitched whine can be the pump or a tired belt. We listen to when the noise happens — fill, wash, or spin — because the timing tells us where to look. Catching a bearing early is a lot cheaper than waiting until it takes the drum with it.
• Shaking or vibrating

  A washer that walks across the floor or bangs on spin is usually out of balance — but the reason behind it varies. Worn suspension parts and shock absorbers let the drum swing too far, and on older machines the shipping bolts sometimes never got removed. An uneven floor or an overloaded drum can do it too. We check the leveling and the suspension first, then the shocks and springs. Left alone, all that movement wears out other parts faster, so it's worth sorting early.
• Stops mid-cycle

  When a washer quits partway through, it's usually protecting itself from something. A drain it can't clear, a door lock that lost contact, or a heat sensor that tripped will all halt a cycle mid-run. Control board glitches and water-level sensor faults show up here too. We recreate the point where it stops, then trace what the machine saw right before it quit — that's faster than swapping parts and hoping. Once we know the trigger, most of these come back to a reliable, full cycle.
• Clothes still dirty

  If laundry comes out still dirty or with residue on it, the washer usually isn't moving or heating water the way it should. Overloading is the most common reason — clothes need room to move — but a clogged detergent drawer, a worn agitator, or water that isn't getting warm enough all leave the same result. Weak water pressure into the machine can starve a cycle too. We check the fill, the heating, and the wash action to find where it's falling short, so your laundry actually comes out clean.
